| "Hedrick Leads One Lap, Takes Win"
David Gentry seemingly had everything going his way, leading all the way, in the $3000 to win, 40-lap Super Late Model feature. It was the season finale' at Duck River Speedway on Saturday, and the Wheel, TN. driver had led thirty-nine of the forty laps. Urbana, Illinois' Richie Hedrick had other ideas, though, as he worked his way from his eleventh starting position, to take the lead from Gentry, as they exited turn two on the final lap to take the win. Hedrick found a groove near the apron of the quarter-mile and charged to the front, biding his time, and avoiding accidents. Thirty-seven Super Late Models from six states participated in the event. Gentry hung on for second. Decatur, Alabama's Mark Mears took third. Scott Randolph from Baxter was fourth, with Georgetown's Lamar Scoggins' fifth. Wheel's Tommy Lawwell finished seventh, rebounding from an incident that sent him to the rear of the twenty-five car field.
Tyler Landers, of Shelbyville, took the B-Main for the Super Late Models, beating Sheffield, Alabama's Jerry Jackson for the win. Alan Carter took third.
In other action, Shelbyville's Mike Clanton led from green to checkered flag, to land a big win in the Two-Barrel Late Model feature. Clanton beat an impressive field of nineteen cars. Tommy White made a late run at Clanton, but wound up a car-length short. David Seibers started seventeenth, riding home third. Larry Landers and Chad Bone rounded out the top five.
Shannon Davis continued his winning ways at the Duck, taking the Open Wheel feature. It wasn't easy, as Shane Stephens had passed Davis near the middle of the twenty-lapper, and was on his way to a win. As he exited turn two, his car broke, and stopped in turn three. From there, Davis held off Eddie Rhinehart for the victory. Mark Haddon took third. Brad Skinner came from fifteenth to take fourth, and Billy Harris finished fifth. Davis' win, more than likely, did little to erase his disappointment over his Super Late Model woes. He was slated to start fourth in the $3000 to win session, ending his hopes for a win.
Alan Carter held off Juenbug Pomeroy to take the Super Stock finale'. Butch Pruitt was third, with Jimmy Woodard fourth. John Whaley finished fifth.
Jamie Lewis won the Outlaw Pony feature. Chance Rogers took the Pure Pony win. Jeremy Baus grabbed the Rookie Pony 10-lapper. Over 150 cars took part in Saturday's races. D.R.S.' Annual Banquet is scheduled for January 15, 2005, at the Blue Ribbon Circle. For more information, call 931-684-2117 or 931-685-9090.
